Greetings from Roy Hobbs Baseball
|
Well, the 2010 season is well underway and we hope the weather has been kind to you so far.
As we are gearing up for the 2010 Roy Hobbs World Series, we have some announcements about the tournament as well as about Fort Myers.
Roy Hobbs was also honored by the tourism industry in Fort Myers this past Spring. Which is great because we want to keep coming back there for many years to come.

- RHWS Age eligibility – We have reviewed the Hobbs age eligibility rules for underage players and come to the conclusion that we need to make these as uniform as possible.
Therefore, we are making all age requirements based on the calendar year.
For example, in the Veterans Division, all teams are allowed 3 under age players, none of whom may pitch. Now those players must be 35 years of age within the calendar year (by December 31).
- Terry Park – The construction at Terry Park is completed … a ribbon-cutting dedication of the revamped Terry Park Complex was held May 19 and the Hobbs folks were on hand to do their part of the snipping.
Click here to see some photos …
- Travel between parks – The construction on Plantation Blvd is complete and now there is a hookup between Plantation and Veronica Shoemaker Parkway.
That means, you can exit Lee County Complex back gate, turn right on Plantation and head north. Plantation will turn into Veronica Shoemaker (VS) at the Colonial Parkway stoplight (it would not be a Lee County road if it did not change names at least once!) … keep going north and VS goes right by Terry Park’s stadium and field 2-3 outfield fences and puts you on Palm Beach Blvd …
No turns to get lost on … Yea! And we will update the directions in the Program and on the website.

Roy Hobbs Baseball Honored in Lee County
|
Roy Hobbs Baseball was honored with the Chrysalis Award for Sports for its role in promoting tourism in Lee County.
The Roy Hobbs World Series is responsible for more than 9500 room nights each year and more than $10 million in economic impact.
Ellen and Tom were presented with the award May 20 along with honorees in 5 more categories, all geared to the promotion of tourism, Lee County’s #1 business.
We were honored to be nominated and considered; we were humbled to be chosen as the inaugural honoree in the Sports category.

This is sure to be another controversial situation. But, seriously, this is how we learn. We all THINK that we KNOW the rules, or the interpretations thereof.... right up until we find a situation that we DON'T. Anyway, here we go again...
SITUATION:
Runners on 1st and 3rd (R1 & R3); infield is pulled in tight for a play on R3 at the plate. Batter hits a line drive to the 2nd baseman, diving to his left. The ball hits his glove, goes directly to R1's helmet and is deflected to the 1st baseman, who catches it and runs over to first base and steps on it before the BR (batter-runner) is 10 feet out of the box but just after R3 crosses home. The 1st baseman turns, tosses the ball to the mound and heads for the dugout, followed by the rest of his team. R1 keeps running around the bases and scores …
